It's definitely been a while since I've played the game. Where was I misinformed?

As this was my first time playing, from the moment I dropped into RE5 I was to busy avoiding death from zombies and punching out boulders to really read too much into the game. The loudest example of racism is often black culture, and anything that poorly misrepresents others (like asians for example) are VERY often looked over and commented as "not aged well". It's "not" brought up as racist when the final boss were the Bakers, Weskers, William Birkin, Nicholai Ginovaef, or even Simmons.

What worries me also is who will be the ones directing the games too. I doubt when Yasuhiro was directing the production of RE5 he wasn't trying to figure out how to make the game racist; the game just happens to discover the African origin of the virus. I can't find why it had to be Africa tho

I can only wonder if his opinion would have changed if he publicly played RE5 or if he was thinking too much into how the "next" remake title could be an issue. I wonder if Sean was aware of the argument of both sides. Pointing out the "obvious racial conflict" indicates that he's aware of what people are concerned about, but he should dig deeper into it. Acknowledge that the talking points from activists were silly when compared to the settings in re4 & re6 (which took the adventure worldwide) and discuss the bigger picture about it.

you're concern is pretty valid. i'd like to imagine the goal of the remakes are to bring titles into it's most modern form, and they should be challenged with a re5 remake anyways. there are tones in re4 that can suggest racism but largely ignored because it was a large departure from re2 and nemesis, making the game feel like an action movie. and in re4r i'm sure the game's just as fun with the new engine from previous remakes. I wonder if calling re5 as racist is a "valid" argument only because the discussion about blm and black unfairness is still the loudest thing discussed in current culture.

The discourse came from ppl who aren’t even black. That’s the biggest issue. Us black ppl and Africans as well loved the game. Who cares what a group thinks about something if it doesn’t even involve them.

The only thing i've heard black friends talk about is how unplayable some re5 moments are. We were softlocked from finishing re5 because in multiplayer Sheva couldn't make the quicktime during the volcano segment.

Isn't the point from nyrion regarding the "racial conflict" happening in game? Or the "virtual signaling" of people retrospectively reviewing the game years later? For players Chris and Sheva are clearly there to stop biowarfare in Africa, but I haven't found what Jack meant by the "obvious racial conflict" presented in the game.

I got clickbaited hard by nyrion lol. Is there something I should be corrected or something from Jack that gives better context? RE5 i'm sure can be made in the next few years; it's unclear how they're gonna write it if RE4 remake insists that Umbrella became quite after Raccoon city compared to how in the original re4 the wording made it sound like umbrella was "done for and disappeared"

⁠@@wtphuFirst, some reviewers DID find RE5 offensive immediately after the first teaser released. It got to the point to where two of the black voice actors defended the game’s setting basically saying RE games have taken place in a number of places and that it wasn’t racist then so it shouldn’t be racist now. The character Sheva Alomar is also half African. She was raised in Africa and studied abroad in England. Some people at the time said it was a cop out to only make her half African but yeah, just a little clarification on her ethnicity. In terms of what people in the present day think of how the racial themes were handled in the game, most people still take issue with the cartoonish representation of the infected tribals starting in the marshlands chapter.

@@danteaerosolas a black person we did not find the game racist. African ppl who played the game actually loved the game. All the political bullshit in video games needs to stop, and other groups need to stop caping for groups they’re not a part of. We need RE5 back and in Africa just with modern controls and bits of story changes here and there.

Unfortunately, its easier for games to gain attention if the launch was so poorly had. Just like how AC shadow is getting a lot of attention and drama already because of how much its going to cost at this time

AI can be a useful tool, but is also presumed to help with cost by thinking AI can cut cost and effort/hrs of work

that's good to know; for it to take 'forever' to make can account for how long it'll take to learn tools that are always being introduced

A number of Triple A titles really have suffered from pushing quantity of products over quality. You can push more product by being reckless

@@wtphu no worries dude... you most likely remember Elk due to him using the same base model as Tsukasa hahahah which is very understandable since they are basically pallette swaps (like Orca and Bear, Terashima and Subaru)

What worries me is if the only demographic for Golden Sun is from the older consumers. I've just read that its not out on NSO yet and there is no official date for when it is available.

That's what I've been feeling. Both Sephi and Aerith feel like people who are essentially doing their ng+ run and are affecting the canon timeline. Like during Cloud's first meeting with Aerith but with the Whispers involved; She had to insist on Cloud getting the flower (We don't get the choice between Tifa and Marlene for the flower, but it had the same affect on the characters). This also includes when Sephi goes off script, attacks more than just President Shinra, and the Whispers intervene because it didn't happen that way in OG

How do you figure? That'll definitely be different from the OG death of Aerith. In Remake who you Romanced affected the cutscene prior to rescuing Aerith (i.e. I had a cutscene with Tifa while my friend had one with Aerith where she said "don't fall in love with me" as if she was hiding details).

@@wtphu so the reason I think the death will be who you romance is because of the cut scene where we see tifa fall. Watching it multiple times the screen effects and movement could be replaced with any of the characters you can romance which is all of them. Plus they already said it wouldn't be something you'd expect. That would be the most unexpected thing kinda like the mass effect 1 Ashley or kaden choice but with a few more stings.

That would be unexpected. My interpretation was regarding how we are WEEKS away from release and we don't know what'll happen because of our knowledge post ReMake. Are the Whispers still involved; What does Sephi, Aerith, and Rufus know that our party doesn't; How will Zack be involved knowing the twin timeline theory is apparent; Will there be others that can sense the change in destiny like Sephi, Aerith, and Rufus?

We're already going to be dealing with the ramifications from Intergrade; there's the current knowledge that Deepground is a thing now, and there'll be connecting threads to/from Advent Children, Yuffie's fear of Nero after Sonon, and the purple haze that come's from the prior encounter, the path before the forbidden city's unclear

@@wtphu and I agree with most of that except advant children the time line for that was broken. That timeline takes place after the original and durge of Cerberus. I think it would be there best chance at making a shock through the community imagine telling your friend that tifa died in there playthrough changing the ending and making the start of the next game wildly different. Giving us a more unique experience. And as for the purple mist the ayons that summon like Leviathan King Arthur bahamid Sheva all require that member of the party to be alive we didnt have a summoner they were character tied. Just a wild theory but I feel like tiamat is going to play a important role in stopping sephiroth from acting the plan out. I hope they go in a wild direction so we don't have a repeat of strangers of paradise which was so easy to see that your the main bad guy. Cause how it's going right now we changed the story we changed the ending to advent children in that respect is there a world after the death of the life stream? I cannot recall why she had the most affection points; I also cannot say how much of Zack imprinted on to Cloud during his death. With how untrust worthy his memories are and how he has mistook his placement in memories for Zack (like Cloud's exploration of the Mithril mines with Sephiroth was actually a memory between Zack and Sephi), I'm lead to assume his quick fondness of Aerith came from Zack. I cannot wait to see how they've written the script still! Between my friend and I, he got the scene the "you can't fall in love with me scene" with Aerith not knowing of the Tifa scene.

@@wtphu that's kind of a misconception though. all that cloud got from zack is that he thinks that he was in zack’s position from zack’s time at nibelheim because Cloud was present for it and some of the other stories that Zack told him about his time in SOLDIER. cloud doesn't really have all of zack's memories or his feelings for aerith, that would be kid of odd. remember when he first met aerith he was his usual standoffish self but he developed an organic bond with her by spending time with her and learning more about her, it had nothing to do with zack. i hope they make stuff like that clear in the remake though bc there's a lot of small misconceptions like that floating around in the community despite the game being so old... same here, i'm super excited to see what they have in store for us!

Yeah I agree; within it's genre it's good gameplay for what you're doing. I've tried mechanics in FF14, Lost Ark and Path of Exile off camera, and there's much to be asked for. Very average game for someone trying to connect with their kid or something to try with someone not versatile in gaming.

the easiest target of this is Disney; from Rei in Star Wars to Carol Danvers in Marvel, there have been more Mary Sue's and Idealized characters popping up in women's roles that show a character who's got everything figured out with the one pep talk that helps their struggle for the movie. The Batgirl/woman movie was thrown away even though it was complete; the recent news with the Snow White movie with Gal Gadot is getting backlash from comments like "its not 1953 anymore, grow up" comments I've heard. Even Doctor Strange & the multiverse of madness ruined all of the character development Wanda went through in WandaVision, and this is the same character that's from the same universe as Dr. Strange. I'm all for leading female roles, but they're taking the yt clickbait games on without proper scaling.

that would play on the 3 soldiers we see in the trailer with the professor!! i would lose all of my bones when they touch on advent children & dierge of cerberous, especially when they reference deepground during ff7r intergrade with yuffie!

at the end if ff7r i was very grateful that they extended the 5 hr segment of the OG to 40 hrs in retrospect: it made me feel lived in the sector 7 slums, made me care of biggs, wedge, and jesse more than what i last remembered, and after the plate falling made me experience the aftermath and had me marinating in it before storming shinra

Thank you for clearing that up to me. I had a poor perception that ff16 was a more open region than an open world since it had the same Combat director as DMC5's designer, Ryota Suzuki. Until people were invited to play the FF7 Rebirth demo like Max, I had the hope that Open World had the same feeling as FF15 but evolved. The likely event is for the two titles to be run in parallel, but separately. the funny headcanon I have is they casually look over the shoulders at each other at times to see what the others are doing. concept work for ff16 began in 2015 so for sure different teams were at play.

i really wanted something to tide me over in saving up for a ps5; i'm sure this is great for households that want's to carry their experience to other places in the house. even that limits them to what games are compatable with the remote play service that you might as well take up the tv the ps5 is connected to

It feels very Frankenstein like. i feel a lot more comfortable pulling out a switch or my friends Steam deck in comparison to the shape of the ps portal. the vita was sorely overlooked.

oh no! did it stunt your progress of the lvl? the last scary game that slowed my progress was RE7; i had to take breaks during recordings/ streams because of my motion sickness- fixed that real quick when i learned i could turn off the motion blur
